Quick answers
How much does a 7-day trip to the Galápagos cost?
About $1,845 per person on a budget and $2,268 mid-range for a land-based week from mainland Ecuador (two people sharing), including the $200 park fee, the $20 transit card, flights from Quito, hotels, ferries, three day tours and food. Your flight to Ecuador is extra. Price your own trip.
Where are the Galápagos Islands?
In the Pacific Ocean on the equator, about 2 hours by plane west of mainland Ecuador, which they belong to. Flights leave from Quito and Guayaquil. How to get there.
How many days do you need?
Five days for one island and its day trips, a week for two islands (Santa Cruz and Isabela), ten days for three. Every island change costs about half a day on a boat. Itinerary planner.
What is the best month to go?
There is no bad month. The sea is warmest around March (25.7°C) and calmest from February to April; June to November is cooler and choppier but the sea is most alive. September is the quietest month for visitors. Month by month.
Cruise or land-based?
A cruise reaches remote islands day boats cannot; a land-based trip costs less and suits families and anyone who gets seasick. Take the quiz.
Which island is best to stay on?
Santa Cruz for the most day trips, Isabela for penguins, flamingos and the volcano, San Cristóbal for sea lions in town and the easiest airport. Island chooser.
